Perine rushed five times for 16 yards and caught one of his two targets for five yards in Sunday's 27-2 preseason win over the Packers.
After failing to record a single rush or reception in the Broncos' first preseason game, Perine touched the ball on six of his 11 offensive snaps in the contest. The veteran running back remains in a crowded running back room, competing with presumed starter Javonte Williams, Jaleel McLaughlin and Audric Estime for playing time in the 2024 campaign. As the preseason nears its end, Perine will look to hold on to his roster spot in Denver. If he does, the 28-year-old would likely be the favorite to handle passing-down work.

Estime's 15 offensive snaps were the most played by any Broncos running back in the contest. The rookie running back has impressed Denver's coaching staff during training camp due to his physicality as a rusher, so he could be an intriguing option for early-down and goal-line work behind Javonte Williams. Nonetheless, Estime is also competing with Jaleel McLaughlin and Samaje Perine within Denver's backfield rotation. The Notre Dame product will likely see a good deal of work in the Broncos' preseason finale against the Cardinals.

Broncos' Bo Nix: May be named starter soon

Nix may be named as the Broncos' starting quarterback this week, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
Stevens expects coach Sean Payton to make an announcement in the coming days, after Nix completed eight of nine passes for 80 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 27-2 win over Green Bay while leading the Broncos to 10 points on their first two drives. Nix also was solid in the preseason opener -- 15-for-21 passing for 125 yards and a TD -- and his scrambling has been encouraging from a fantasy standpoint (six rush attempts for 29 yards in two games). Veteran quarterback Jarrett Stidham has been much less impressive this preseason, completing 11 of 18 passes for 102 yards with one rushing TD and two interceptions.

Trautman caught the first pass thrown by quarterback Bo Nix on the opening drive. Due to Trautman's blocking prowess, he is the favorite to lead Denver's tight ends in playing time during the 2024 regular season, though Greg Dulcich and Lucas Krull both have higher ceilings as pass catchers. Dulcich caught both of his targets for 27 yards in Sunday's win, while Krull finished with two catches for six yards on three targets.

Sutton's lone contribution came on the team's second drive, as rookie quarterback Bo Nix connected with the veteran wide receiver to get down to the four-yard line. Sutton's set to operate as the top target for whomever plays under center for the Broncos come the regular season, and he's unlikely to get significant playing time in next Sunday's preseason finale against the Cardinals. While Nix has yet to be officially named the starter for Week 1, all signs seem to be pointing that way given how well the 12th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft has played in the preseason.

Broncos' Jarrett Stidham: Outplayed by Nix again

Stidham completed seven of 11 passes for 65 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 27-2 preseason win over the Packers. He added a nine-yard touchdown run on his only rushing attempt.
Stidham watched Bo Nix lead Denver's offense to 10 points on the first two drives, then played the next four drives. The 28-year-old quarterback showed toughness on his touchdown run late in the first half, but that play accounted for Denver's only points during Stidham's time in the game, and he proceeded to throw an interception on the first drive of the third quarter. Stidham seems to have fallen behind the rookie Nix in Denver's quarterback competition heading into next Sunday's preseason finale against the Cardinals, though the team has yet to officially declare a starter for the regular season.

McLaughlin was the second running back into the game for Denver after Javonte Williams, working ahead of Audric Estime and Samaje Perine. All of Patrick's production came in two drives alongside rookie quarterback Bo Nix to start the game. Patrick accounted for half of Nix's eight completions, including a two-yard touchdown to cap both players' time in the game, which marked Patrick's first trip to the end zone in an NFL game since Week 15 of the 2021 season. Patrick finally looks healthy after missing the last two seasons due to a torn ACL followed by a torn Achilles, and he has a chance to carve out a prominent role in a Broncos receiving corps with an unsettled depth chart behind No. 1 receiver Courtland Sutton.
